FAQ's

  • Why should I learn CPR?

CPR is used to keep the brain alive until help arrives.  Brain damage begins in 4 minutes without CPR and is usually complete in 10 minutes.

  • Who should be trained in CPR and First Aid?

Everyone over the age of 12 years-old, including but not limited to parents, corporations and babysitters. Statistics show that 1 in 1000 adults will die of sudden cardiac arrest, with everyday emergencies occurring much more frequently (nearly 916 per day). Without immediate bystander CPR and early defibrillation, a person in cardiac arrest will have less than a five percent chance of survival.  With the rise of public access AEDs, it is important for there to be qualified and prepared rescuers to use them and help save lives.
  • Are there classes offered in Spanish?

Yes. We have all classes offered in Spanish as well. Please contact for more details.
  • Are chest compressions alone are more effective than a combination of chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth?

No. According to both American Red Cross and American Heart Association, complete CPR includes mouth-to-mouth and chest compressions and is proven to be the most effective method, especially when the person administering has been trained. Compressions-only CPR is for those who are unwilling, untrained, or unable to give mouth-to-mouth rescue breathing.

  • Does accessCPR teach recertification classes?

Yes. We believe that in an emergency, you’ve got to be focused, prepared and confident in your skills. There’s no time to hesitate. That’s why recertification is so important. Research shows that individuals with repeated training in CPR have greater knowledge retention and more confidence in their skills than those persons who infrequently participate in training. In fact, the greater the number of times an individual has received annual training, the greater the difference in knowledge and confidence they have. And that makes sense—especially when you consider how difficult it can be to keep skills fresh if you’re not using them on a regular basis. So whether you were previously certified through American Red Cross or American Heart Association, contact us for recertification dates and times.

  • What happens if my current card is expired?

If your card is expired then you need to re-take another complete course. Your certification expires on the last day of the month shown on your card.

  • Can I (or my company) be sued for administering CPR/First Aid or using an AED in an attempt to save a victim's life?

The Good Samaritan Act provides excellent coverage for laypersons assisting a victim in cardiac arrest; in 2001, AEDs were wrapped into this coverage.  Administrators of AED Programs are obligated to ensure that they are in compliance of federal, state, and local regulations in order to ensure that their liability is limited.
  • What should I wear to a class?

The courses involve hands-on practice sessions, so please wear something comfortable that you can move around in.
  • How long is the certification good for?

American Red Cross First Aid is good for 3 years, while American Red Cross CPR and AED are both good for 1 year.
