AED

This course teaches individuals currently certified in CPR - Adult and CPR - Child how to safely use an Automated External Defibrillator, or AED, to provide care for victims of sudden cardiac arrest.

  • Automated External Defibrillator

    In this course you will learn to:

    • Identify what defibrillation is and how it works
    • Identify the need for early defibrillation and the role of CPR in cardiac arrest
    • Identify the operational differences between current models of AEDs
    • Identify the general steps and safety precautions to follow when using an AED on an adult and child
    • Demonstrate how to use an AED for an adult and child in cardiac arrest 
  • What is an AED?

    An AED, or Automated External Defibrillator, is a device used to administer an electric shock through the chest wall to the heart.  Built-in computers assess the patient's heart rhythm, judge whether defibrillation is needed, and then administer the shock. Audible and/or visual prompts guide the user through the process.
